Will UNESCO heritage tag remain elusive for both Delhi and Hyderabad? The World Heritage Committee is scheduled to meet in Bonn, Germany June next year to discuss which monuments would get the coveted World Heritage Site tag. Among the dossiers sent to UNESCO from India are those of a group of Hyderabad monuments – the Golconda Fort, Charminar and the Qutub Shahi Tombs. But when the international team visited Hyderabad last time, they reportedly expressed concerned at the state of preservation – hardly anything has changed on the ground since then. Delhi’s proposal – the Imperial Cities of Delhi encompassing both Shajahanabad and Lutyen’s Delhi would be debated again – signaling possible lack of agreement among the jury.
